Of course there has been Ted Bundy, Charles Manson and John Wayne Gacy but we are not just talking here of a list of serial killers in America, we are talking about the history of serial killers and include all serial killers no matter where they were from. Here then are perhaps the top 10 most brutal serial killers ever, along with the number of deaths that they are thought to have been responsible for and the country in which they lived.

The Candy Man, 27, USA
His real name was Dean Arnold Corll and he was responsible for what were known as the Houston Mass Murders. Teaming up with David Brooks and Elmer Wayne Henley who he paid to find the 27 men who were his victims, this homo sexual would kill them with his own hands.

Ahmad Saradji, 42, Indonesia
During 11 years when he acted as a witch doctor, Ahmad would bury women up to their waists and then strangle them. He told the police that he was acting on the wishes of his dead father who spoke to him.

The Green River killer, 48, USA
Gary Leon Ridgeway’s first 5 victims were located by Green River, giving him his name. Saying that his job was to kill prostitutes, he managed to kill 48 before being brought to justice.

The Red Ripper or the Rostov Ripper, 53, Russia
Andrei Chikatilo came from what is now known as the Ukraine and he killed men, women and children in a variety of ways but would always mutilate them.

Chessboard Killer or Bitsa Park Maniac, 60, Russia
Alexander Pichushkin’s preferred method of killing was to smash in the back of his victims heads with a hammer. Although convicted of 52 murders, he asked that another 11 be considered, so as to beat the Red Ripper’s total.

Monster killer, 65, China
Yang Xinhai is famous in China for not just killing the 65 victims but for also raping 23 others, all between 1999 and 2004. He was later executed with a shot to the back of his head.

Coral, 100, USA
With the real name of Carl Eugene Watts, he killed the first of his victims whilst he was just 20 years old. After being arrested he first confessed to 12 killings and then changed it to fist 20 and then 40. Police now believe that he was, in all, responsible for as many as 100 murders, making him the prolific American murderer.

Luis Garavito at first admitted to killing 140 boys but later it became clear that the real number was as many as 300. His preferred method was to first, violently rape them and then cut their throats.

The Countess Erzsébet Báthory got her nickname because she by killing 600 young virgins in order to bathe in their blood, which she considered good for her complexion. She is thought to be the most prolific female murderer in history.
